Fascinating Wax Facts

Here are a few things I learned this week that I think might interest you:

  • Mr. Zog is a real person.
  • Zog says that the ingredients in Sex Wax are considered “food grade” by the FDA.

  • According to Lisa at Mrs. Palmers, Mrs. Palmer is not (as far as she knows) a real person.  Bummer.

Alpaca Video from SURFER

This guy in Peru is teaching an Alpaca how to surf… the poor thing falls off every time it gets to its feet, but seems determined to learn.  I personally like the line, “And sometimes they eat them.”

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Dane’s Van

I think Marine Layer hit a new level of awesomeness yesterday when Dane Reynolds posted the following:

3 Easy Steps for Obtaining Charlie Brown’s Time Machine (My Van)

1. Be the FIRST one to SNAPPER HILL PARKING LOT

2. KEYS ARE INSIDE.  HOP IN.  Turn the key.  Figure out the column shift.

3. Drive off like a BANDIT.

NO STRINGS ATTACHED

DRIVE SAFE

This was followed (20 minutes later) by a post stating that the van was taken, “Thanks for lookin.”  An hour or so after that, an absurd video appeared of some guy scoping out the van and then, amazingly, driving it away!  (albeit not like a bandit)

Check it out.

Bustin’ Down The Door

I admittedly watched this for the very first time last night, and immediately wished I had bought it, rather than Netflixed it.  Bustin’ Down the Door is Jeremy Gosch’s round documentary on the Aussie (and South African) invasion of the 1970s.  Smart interviews and first-person accounts are fused with formidable footage (both contemporary and current) to form the cohesive and compelling story of six surfers (“Rabbit” Bartholomew, Peter Townend, Mark Richards, Ian Cairns, Shaun Tomson, and Michael Tomson) who changed the sport.  MR’s style is just ridiculous and Ian Cairns is hilariously unapologetic.  If you are even remotely interested in the history of surfing, at least rent the thing- you won’t be disappointed because it’s excellent.

Wave SKIING: An Entirely New Type of “Skurfing”

A friend sent me this video, which I think is really interesting, and could, possibly, be a new thing- at least for those who have access to the expensive equipment involved.  Mike Douglas and Cody Townsend, who are both professional free skiers, were always curious about whether it was possible to ski on waves, they say.  After “years of dreaming” and much experimentation, they settled on alpine setups (crazy!) and gave it a shot in Hawaii.  They had to be towed in, for fairly obvious reasons, but once they were in, they were independent.  Their success is kind of amazing.  Watch it  and let me know what you think of this nutty hybrid.
